Integrative Yoga therapy is the merger of various modalities of bodywork along with a holistic approach to health and wellness. This approach makes yoga therapy more effective than general yoga practice for people who wish to treat specific medical conditions through yoga.
Yoga therapy can be applied for a wide range of physical and mental-emotional conditions: for structural problems such as low back pain, arthritis, shoulder pain: for respiratory conditions such as asthma: for diseases of the digestive system such as irritable bowel syndrome: and for many other common health conditions such as multiple sclerosis, hypertension, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.
During a session, clients are asked to perform a series of stretches and exercises directly pertaining to the afflicted area(s). Hands-on bodywork will be applied if and when necessary to facilitate the opening of restricted areas. It is not necessary to have experience of yoga before beginning Yoga therapy. Comfortable "exercise" clothing is to be worn.
